Hammer Seal Union
Mud tank connections are typically made with hammer seal unions; these robust unions may be hammered tightly to a non-leak seal even in cases where the mud tanks aren’t perfectly aligned (up to 7°). A Schedule 80 stub pipe is welded to the externally threaded female port at the tank wall. The connecting pipe reaches the union’s female part after passing through the o-ring and nut components. The O-ring is crushed into an oblong cross-section upon tightening the internally threaded lug nut onto the female, sealing up to 150 psi against the connecting pipe’s outside diameter. The best option for a mud tank connection is Hammer Seal Union.
